PRODUCT DETAILS

Origin: Japan

Size: 21 x 20 x 14 cm (Two tier)

Material: Urushi lacquer on natural wood base

The fan motif (senmen) featured on this two-tier jubako is a traditional design element inspired by the shape of an open folding fan. In Japanese culture, the fan’s spreading form symbolizes "suehirogari"—an auspicious expression of expanding fortune and prosperity.

Each fan segment often depicts seasonal flora or elegant landscapes, inviting reflection on the beauty of nature and the cultural richness of the seasons. These images are rendered in maki-e, a centuries-old lacquer technique in which powdered gold or silver is sprinkled onto lacquer to create luminous designs of remarkable precision.

Compact and refined, the two-tier structure makes this jubako ideal for both presentation and celebration. As both a functional vessel and a symbolic object, it carries heartfelt wishes for happiness, growth, and lasting elegance.
